These are some of the tulip fields near La Conner, on Whidbey Island. We went over for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. This is a great day trip from Port Townsend, during April.

Port Townsend is expecting a “car ferry” in February, but in the meantime we have a great “walk on” ferry running between here and Whidbey Island.

With its 50s America decor and cheerful attitude, the Nifty Fiftys Soda Fountain is a must-visit. Pop in for a waffle ice cream cone, root beer float, an espresso, or an old-fashioned, hand-mixed phosphate soda.
